Transitioning from Potty Box to Outside

Here at Nine Eves, our puppies are potty box trained so that there will be minimal mess while you transition to outdoor potty training. Here are a few steps to help you transition from the potty box to the outdoors.

1. One thing you can do is place a fake grass sheet over the pellets in the potty box. This isn’t required for the transition, and some puppies don’t like the feel of the fake grass and won’t use it. However, it could possibly be a huge help if your puppy will.

2. Place a pile of pellets in the area of the yard that you would like your puppy to potty in. Always take them directly there when you take them outside.

3. Slowly move the potty box close to the door. This will help your puppy learn to go to the door when they need to use the restroom and it makes it easier for you to know when your pup needs to go out.

4. Make sure you take puppy out frequently. Especially after a meal and when they first wake up. At these two times you can reliably predict that your puppy will need to potty.

5. Allow pup to take potty breaks outside. When walking, make sure you allow puppy time to stop and potty.

6. Always reward your pup for going potty outside. You can boil a chicken breast and cut it into small pieces. This makes for a lean, one ingredient treat that is healthy and pups go crazy for!

Now it’s time to teach pup to alert you when they need to go outside!
